Tree Partners - the Community Forest North West
Who plants the trees?
Leaves in the city does not physically plant trees,
for this we rely on other experts, and we are therefore proud to have formed a
partnership with Community Forest North West in England.
Community Forests North West was created in 2001
and supports three Community Forest Initiatives in
the North West:
Red Rose
Forest and Pennine
Edge Forest
in Greater Manchester, and, The Mersey Forest
in Merseyside and North Cheshire. Community Forests North West
is a charity that works to raise funds and awareness to help the three
forestry initiatives continue their vital work, increasing tree cover
across the North West region.
This work is essential since as much as 25% of the total land
dereliction in the UK is found in the North West. The Forests involve local
communities and businesses in the creation of attractive green
environments in which they can thrive. Millions more trees will be
planted over the coming decade, and there are a host of opportunities
for businesses and individuals to get involved. Community Forests North
West Ltd is a registered charity no. 1072706
and non-profit making company limited by guarantee
no. 3598556.
The trees planted are the most appropriate for the
site including the needs of the local community and they are
predominantly native to the North West of England
and include Rowan (or Mountain Ash), Oak, Field
Maple, Alder, Beech, Silver Birch, Holly and Ash.
Together, Leaves in the City and Community Forests North West
aim to plant thousands more trees making towns and cities in the North West, which account for so much of the derelict land
in England,
more attractive places in which to live and work. We aim to give people
the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a more natural world in an
urban setting.
Leaves in the City are uniquely placed to work
alongside companies who wish to contribute to real change in our
environment. We design stratagems that bring together the expertise and
energy of Community Forests
North West and the commitment and enthusiasm of
those in commercial ventures to achieve this.
